TRIN 321 ders içeriği
This course aims at combining oral comprehension skills with the ability to render speeches and note them down while a speaker delivers a speech in English-Turkish language pair. Note-taking procedures and consecutive interpreting techniques will be practiced through pedagogically adapted texts.
Haftalık konular (14 hafta)
- Basic principles of Note-taking and Consecutive Interpretation: Active listening, understanding cross cultural messages, speech types analysis, memory (short & long term), mind maps, splitting ideas.
- Pillars of consecutive interpreting: understanding, analysis and re-expression. First pillar of CI: understanding; lecture on active listening, understanding cross-cultural messages, speech types.
- Second pillar of CI: analysis; Identifying main ideas, grouping ideas, summarizing ideas, structuring ideas in a hierarchy. Working with speech writing guides, structure maps, mini summaries, mind maps and links for consecutive
- Third pillar of CI: re-expression. Discussion and techniques on reading back from notes. Performance criteria.
- PROJECT / Note-taking principles; Rozan's 7 principles of note-taking.
- Exercises of note-taking TR-TR in light of Rozan's note-taking principles
- QUIZ 1 - Classroom practice on short speeches in light of Rozan's note-taking principles (ENG-TR)
- Fine tuning in note taking: clauses, rules of abbreviation, verbs, the recall line, use of margins.
- Midterm I
- Classroom practice on links and use of symbols.
