Music notation: time and pitch, rhythm, meter, tempo, musical time, staff, solfege syllables, accidentals. Designation of pitch, duration, tempo, expressions and dynamics. Intervals, scales and modes. Polyphonic and harmonic approach. Chords. Dictation exercises.

The students will develop their perceptions of modal and tonal music, acquire competence for musical performance with good intonation, improve their ensemble skills and study the basic rhythms and patterns of irregular time signatures. The repertoire and exercice material include music from Gregorian chant to Late Romanticism.
