As a basis for all mental activity and behavior the nervous system and the brain in particular are quite important. This course introduces the structure and workings of the brain, its main characteristics, and its relationship to mind and behavior.

- A Brief History of Neuroscience: Introduction to major discoveries, ideas, and figures that shaped the scientific study of the brain and nervous system
- Research Methods in Neuroscience: Introduction to methods used to investigate brain structure, function, and behavior, including experimental and neuroimaging techniques
- Structure and Function of Neurons: Examination of neurons, their structure and electrical activity, and how neurons communicate with one another.
- Evolution of the Human Brain: Examination of how the brain evolved and how changes in brain structure and organization relate to human cognition and behavior.

- Neuroscience of Sensation and Perception: Examination of how the nervous system detects, processes, and interprets sensory information from the environment and the body
- Neuroscience of Attention: Examination of the neural mechanisms that allow us to select, prioritize, and maintain focus on relevant information
- Neuroscience of Learning and Memory: Examination of the neural mechanisms underlying learning, memory formation, storage, retrieval, and consolidation.
- Neuroscience of Emotions: Examination of the neural systems involved in emotional processing, including the generation, regulation, and expression of emotions.

Students who receive an FZ are not allowed to take the final exam. To qualify for taking the final exam, students must collect 25 points from midterms/quizzes and assignments
