Building a general framework to familiarize students with the variety of Turkey's flora while understanding effects of climate, topography and soil on plant communities.
Haftalık konular (14 hafta)
- Introduction to the scope, objectives, and organization of the course. Brief review of plant classification and identification principles covered in LAUD 241, followed by an introduction to the general characteristics and classification of gymnosperms.
- Gymnosperms: Ginkgoaceae, Taxaceae, Cycadaceae, Araucariaceae Study of Ginkgoaceae, Taxaceae, Cycadaceae, Araucariaceae families focusing on morphological characteristics, ecological requirements, and landscape design potential. The theoretical session is followed by field identification exercises with selected plant species on campus.

- Gymnosperms: Pinaceae (continued) Continuation of Pinaceae family studies, followed by field identification exercises with selected plant species on campus.

- Off-Campus Field Identification Exercise
- Gymnosperms: Laboratory Exam and Mid-Term Exam Plant identification examination covering the gymnosperm species studied during the first half of the course, followed by a mid-term examination assessing the related theoretical content.
- Introduction to Herbaceous Landscape Plants & Final Project Brief Introduction to the major groups of herbaceous plants used in landscape design, with emphasis on growth habits, life cycles, ecological requirements, seasonal characteristics, and design functions. Introduction of the final planting design project.
- Turfgrasses and Groundcovers Study of major turfgrass and groundcover groups focusing on ecological requirements, establishment and maintenance principles, functional characteristics, and landscape applications. The theoretical session is followed by project development and desk critiques.
- Annuals, Biennials and Herbaceous Perennials Study of annual, biennial, and perennial herbaceous plants focusing on life cycles, seasonal performance, morphological and visual characteristics, ecological requirements, and their roles in planting compositions. The theoretical session is followed by project development and desk critiques.
- Geophytes: Bulbous, Cormous, Rhizomatous and Tuberous Plants Study of geophytes according to their underground storage structures, seasonal growth cycles, ecological requirements, and landscape design potential. The theoretical session is followed by project development and desk critiques.
- Planting Design Project: Final Development & Review Final development of the planting design project through desk critiques and a comprehensive review of the course content.
