Introduction to urban design as an autonomous discipline with its own theoretical framework, concepts, and tools; examination of analytical, formative, instrumental, and responsive dimensions of urban design; engagement with seminal texts and key theories shaping the discipline and the physical form of cities; establishment of conceptual and theoretical groundwork for subsequent studio and theory courses in the program.
