GRA 201 ders içeriği
Visual thinking, concept development, color theory, gestalt principles, analogue and digital design techniques. Demonstrations, tutorials, extensive studio work and critiques.
Haftalık konular (14 hafta)
- Introduction to Weekly Schedule, Course Content and Requirements. The framework of syllabus is based on concept development in addition to idea generation, fundamental principles of graphic design, visual thinking, the execution of digital and analog techniques and color theory in particular through lectures, demonstrations, extensive studio classwork, critique and feedback sessions.
- Lecture: Expressing yourself in Drawing. Creative Process Sketchbook and Project 01: Page Redesign. The sketchbook is going to be a record of the student’s effort and dedication throughout the semester. The preparatory drawings and artworks which are regularly created by students each week, particularly along with research, experiments, thumbnails, written assessments and ideas, will make up the content of sketchbook.
- Lectures: Design Process, The Principles of Design. These lectures will be the key considerations for the design process in terms of composing a successful graphic design project throughout the fall and spring semesters. The case studies which will be conducted in related practices are: Define – analyzing the source of problem, Research – collecting background information, Ideate – creating potential solutions, Prototype – resolving solutions, Select – making choices, Implementation– creating the visual medium, Learn - obtaining feedback. Work in Progress: Project 01: Page Redesign.
- Lectures: Idea Generation, Creative Ideas. Project 02: Pictograms. Demonstrations such as Spider Diagrams, Mind Mapping, Brainstorming, Sketching will be undertaken to advance the student's experience in notion and idea generation. The topics providing key strategies, methods for generating ideas are composed of wide range of disciplines to produce innovative graphic design solutions.
- Lecture: Semiotics in Graphic Design. The Study of Signs and Symbols as Elements of Communicative Behaviour. Icon, Index and Symbol. Work in Progress: Project 02: Pictograms.
- Project 03: Alphabet.
- Work in Progress: Project 03: Alphabet.
- Lecture: Visual Thinking. Project 04: Typo Portrait. The lecture and assignment are going to examine the importance of harmony between image, typography, color and visual diversity of combinations to fortify the effectiveness of message.

- Lecture: Color Theory. Assignment 05 - Color Studies. The lecture and assignment consist of the fundamentals of color perception, color interaction and unity in addition to color meanings, color systems in Art and Design History and practising on digital and print mediums.
